What is chiqui-chiqui? / ¿Qué es el chiqui-chiqui?

Chiqui-Chiqui is a palm tree variant that grows in shady but humed areas of the jungle, in the south-eastern regoing of Colombia. It can grow up to 12 meters tall and has a crown consisting of up to 25 leaves measuring 4 meters long.

How is the fiber processed? / ¿Cómo se procesa la fibra?
Without chopping down the palm, its fibers, somewhat resembeling whiskers, can be extracted by twisting itsmature fibers directly from the tree untill it loosens. The loosend individual fibers can then be used to make handicrafts with the use of a sprial weaving tecnique.
